Strengthen Youth voices in Tanzania’s HIV and SRH response

DARE Calls for Continued Investment in Youth-Friendly and Inclusive Health Services

DARE Organisation participated in the Quarterly Adolescent and Young People Stakeholders Technical Working Group (AYAS) meeting under  Tanzania Commision for AIDS (TACAIDS), joining government institutions, civil society organisations, development partners, and youth representatives in discussions on strengthening HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programming for adolescents and young people in Tanzania.

The meeting highlighted important progress in advancing youth health outcomes, including the rollout of condom dispensers in higher learning institutions and the endorsement of key policy and programmatic frameworks aimed at improving access to quality health services for young people.

Stakeholders also revisited the importance of ensuring that young people with disabilities are not left behind in HIV, SRH, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) interventions. Participants emphasised the need for accessible services and meaningful participation of young people with disabilities in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programmes that affect their lives.

While these developments represent positive steps forward, stakeholders acknowledged that continued efforts are needed to expand access to youth-friendly services, strengthen HIV prevention initiatives, and address barriers that prevent young people from accessing essential health information and care.

DARE welcomes the progress made and reiterates its commitment to advocating for inclusive, youth-responsive, and evidence-informed policies and programmes. Ensuring that all young people regardless of ability, background, or circumstance can access the services and support they need is critical to achieving sustainable health outcomes and leaving no one behind.

Through collaboration, advocacy, and meaningful youth engagement, Tanzania can continue to build a health system that responds to the diverse needs and aspirations of its young population.
